Beginning on the solstice June 21st and ending on Sunday June 24th, Citizens for Solar and Solar Guild members, along with their friends and family will enjoy a camp-out at the top of Mount Lemmon. We'll enjoy 20° cooler weather than Tucson but somehow at 9000 feet the solar cooking is even more amazing due to less atmosphere. While this is a private event we will have a couple tables setup and interact the public, and have our solar ovens perched at the Scenic Overlook due to a heavily shaded beautiful campsite. All Solar Guild and Citizens for Solar members are invited. (If you have received this email, you are invited!)
While the campsite is primitive it is in walking distance from maintained Forest Service restrooms. To find us, drive up Mount Lemmon / General Hitchcock Highway. As you approach Summerhaven you will take your second right onto Ski Run Road. Continue upwards on Ski Run Road, past the iron door restaurant and ski chair lifts for 2.9 miles. You will see a large parking area for people walking towards the radio towers near the top of the ski lift. Our group will be on the right side of that road among the trees. If you go too far you will see the restrooms on the left hand side that we use and you will find a gate for private U of A use only.
Our fine chairwoman, Amber Gaia says that she will be on-site on the solstice and we will have a whiteboard to help show the campsite.
There will be events in Summerhaven on Saturday. People can rent mountain bikes and jump on a van that continuously takes people to the top of the ski run so you could ride down to the restaurant area or all the way down. It's called a lemon drop. There's no camping charge. you don't have to solar cook. Or you can just come for the day. Everyone is welcome. So get out of the hot city and enjoy relaxing at 80 degree daytime temperatures, and the sound of birds.
Hope to see you all there,
