Project Summary
The Girl Scouts, in conjunction with community leaders and outreach coordinators, run a solar camp within their science and technology program. Girls ranging from 12-16 gain knowledge related to designing, siting and building a basic photo-voltaic system along with other fun hands on activities.
The workshop involved creating a ground mount battery charging system with charge controller and inverter. The Girl Scouts helped in all phases of assembly and construction resulting in a usable 270 watt system with 3 panels paralleled in a combiner box, feeding a Morning Star Sunsaver 15 amp charge controller, charging a 24 V battery bank and using a 24 V pure sine 300 watt inverter.
